Halloween is about tricks, treats, and things that go bump in the night which can be super scary for our little friends!  This compilation of not so scary monster themed stories can help ease some fear for your kiddos, teach them great lessons about confidence and their emotions all while still allowing them to feel festive.
That’s Not My Monster (Usborne Books):  First, is That’s Not My Monster. This title is one of Usborne Books & More’s best selling series.  This adorable book is perfect for helping little ones develop sensory language and allows them to explore different textures on each page.  It’s bright colors and bold outline are perfect for developing eyes as well.
Muddle and Match Monsters:  Next, your kids will love the Muddle and Match series!  In this book, your kiddos will be able to read the stories in any way they please.  Read the pages as is and get great exposure to beginning sounds, alliteration and rhyming or mix them up and create silly creatures.  This book allows you to create many different stories all in one book.
Nibbles the Book Monster: (Emma Yarlett) Nibbles is a favorite in our house!  He is a silly, mischievous little monster who loves to…you guessed it…nibble!  He especially loves to nibble books.  Your kiddos will delight in following Nibbles as he chews his way through the pages and muddles up popular children’s stories as they try to trap him back in his cage!  The stunning artwork and intricate design of this book will have you coming back to this story again and again.  This story is even more fun when you actually have a huggable Nibbles friend to help you reenact the story.
Jonathan James and the Whatif Monster:  (Michelle Nelson-Schmidt) In this tale you’ll meet Jonathan James who has a lot of anxiety about new or unknown situations.  He is followed around by a little green monster called the Whatif Monster who is constantly asking him what if it goes wrong. Eventually, Jonathan James discovers that he should be asking what if everything goes well?  The message about the power of words and asking yourself how things could be great is so important for kids to hear.  This is another story that is made fun by having your very own Whatif Monster to reenact the story with.
Billie and the Mini Monsters Series:  Mister man loved this series! One day Billy discovers six little monsters hidden in his dresser drawer.  He doesn’t have to worry because they’re friendly monsters but they do get into a lot of mischief!  Each book in the series follows them as they get into a pickle and have you wondering how they will ever get out of it.  You can buy the whole series here or you can buy each one individually.  (Note: There is a book designated as book 1 to this series but they do not have to be read in any particular order as each has a quick 2-page introduction to the characters and how they found one another.)
Build Your Own Monster Sticker Book:  Finally, kiddos will have blast building their own super scary monster with this fun book.  This book has 24 pages for kids to get creative and 10 pages of stickers.  The monstrosities they can build are endless!
